Taxonomy
Mustelavus was named by Clark (1936) [in Scott and Jepsen]. It is not extant. Its type is Mustelavus priscus.
It was synonymized subjectively with Plesictis by Simpson (1946) and Olsen (1956).
It was assigned to Mustelidae by Clark (1936), Clark and Beerbower (1967), Schmidt-Kittler (1981) and Baskin and Tedford (1996); to Mustelavinae by Baskin (1998); to Mustelida by Wang et al. (2005); and to Semantoridae by Sato et al. (2009).
