Taxonomy
Lumectospongia was named by Rigby and Chatterton (1989) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ludl-l Sepkoski's reference number: 880]. It is not extant. Its type is Lumectospongia uncinata.

It was assigned to Lumectospongiidae by Rigby and Chatterton (1989); and to Reticulosa by Sepkoski (2002).
