Alievium was named by Pessagno (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: J Call K Maes-l Sepkoski's reference number: 685].

It was assigned to Pseudoaulophacidae by Zügel (1997) and De Wever et al. (2001); and to Nassellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
