Taxonomy
Mangilia painei was named by Arnold (1903). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Deadman Island area - Lower San Pedro Series (1900s-1950s) [San Pedro Sand], which is in a Pleistocene coastal sandstone in the San Pedro Sand Formation of California.

It was recombined as Mangelia painei by Hendy (2021).
