Jaywilsonomys was named by Ferrusquia and Wood (1969) [not followed by Emry and Korth 1996, who seem unaware of Ferrusquia 1984]. It is not extant. Its type is Jaywilsonomys ojinagaensis.
It was assigned to Cylindrodontidae by Ferrusquia and Wood (1969) and McKenna and Bell (1997).
