Taxonomy
Monosaulax was named by Stirton (1935). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Eucastor by Stout in Skinner and Taylor (1967), Xu (1994) and Schiebout and Ting (2000).

It was assigned to Castoridae by Stirton (1935), McKenna and Bell (1997), Evander (1999), Korth (1999) and Korth (2002); and to Castoroidini by Korth (2008).
