Dryomys was named by Thomas (1906). It is extant. Its type is Dryomys nitedula. It is the type genus of Dryomyinae.
It was assigned to Dryomyinae by Daams and de Bruijn (1995); and to Gliridae by McKenna and Bell (1997).
