Stioderma was named by Finks (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: C Vise P Guad-u Sepkoski's reference number: 203,1066]. Its type is Stioderma coscinum.

It was assigned to Stiodermatidae by Finks (1960) and Rigby et al. (1999); and to Amphidiscosa by Sepkoski (2002).
