Taxonomy
Eumyarion was named by Thaler (1966). It is not extant. Its type is Eumyarion helveticus. It is the type genus of Eumyarioninae.
It was assigned to Cricetidae by Mein and Freudenthal (1971), Qiu et al. (1981), Lalaï (1986) and McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Eumyarioninae by Maridet et al. (2011).

Crâne - voire les caractères crâniens de la sous-famille. Mandibule - Le corps mandibulaire est légèrement incliné du côte lingual par rapport à la rangée dentaire. En vue occlusale le foramen mentale peut être visible ou caché. La diastème est plat. La pointe du l'incisive est plus basse que la surface masticatrice; l'incisive est très petite par rapport à la taille de la mandibule. Les crêtes massétériennes sont très fortement développées, la crête inférieure est courbée. Le foramen mandibulare est plus bas que la surface masticatrice. En vue latérale la m3 est complètement visible ou partiellement caché par la branche montante. La partie antéro-interne du processus angularis est peu creussée, et passe graduellement dans la branche horizontale. Molaires - brachyodontes ou légèrement hypsodontes. Molaires supérieures - Elles ont 3 racines. L'antérocône de M1 est simple ou divisé. La vallée interne est parfois transversale, mais le plus souvent courbée fortement en avant. Molaires inférieures - 2 racines. L'antéroconide de m1 est simple. Le métaconide de m1 montre des connections variable avec l'antéroconide, le protoconide et le mésolophide; la branche postérieur du protoconide de m1 est toujours presenté, à côte du mésolophide. La branche postérieure de l'hypoconide est souvent (mais pas toujours) individualisée entre postérolophide et entoconide; chez la m2 cette crête est plus rare que chez la m1 (chez tous les autres Cricetidae post-aquitaniens de l'Europe cette crête manque). La vallée externe est parfois transversale, mais plus souvent courbée fortement en arrière. Incisive inférieur - très petite par rapport à la taille de la mandibule. L'incisive porte deux côtes longitudinales en saillie, sur le milieu de la face antérieure, comme chez Cricetodon. |
