Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
S. Bengtson 1986Siliceous spicules of strongly modified pentact type, central ray elaborated into an egg-shaped body, 260-690 #m long, built up of three to eight arches meeting at the two ends of the modified ray. Central portion of modified ray either empty or occupied by thin vanes joining each arch to axis, thus dividing central space into as many compartments as there are arches. Lateral rays of pentact sometimes strongly reduced or even absent. Distal end of central, egg-shaped, ray commonly carries short axial spine. Internal filaments or canals present in rays and/or arches. Further spicule types may be present but have not been positively identified.
