Baccites rugosus was named by Zenker (1833). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Eomastixia rugosus by Chandler (1963) and Chandler (1964); it was recombined as Eomastixia rugosa by Chandler (1962) and Collinson et al. (2012).
