Silicunculus was named by Bengtson (1986) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Dres-l O Cara-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Silicunculus australiensis.

S. Bengtson 1986 | Siliceous spicules of strongly modified pentact type, central ray having sharply reclined distal tip, giving the spicule a distinct hook-shape. Lateral rays forming four small processes at proximal end of hook, those facing the direction of reclined tip usually larger than the two others. Surface of spicules generally smooth, but hispid surface may be developed, particularly on the two larger lateral rays. Axial filament or canal present in all rays. Further spicule types may be present but have not been positively identified. |
