Taxonomy
Paraphiomys was named by Andrews (1914). It is not extant. Its type is Paraphiomys pigotti.

It was assigned to Phiomyidae by McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Thryonomyidae by López-Antoñazas and Sen (2005), Coster et al. (2012) and Sallam and Seiffert (2019).
