Nabaviella was named by Mostler and Mosleh-Yazdi (1976) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda O l Sepkoski's reference number: 923]. It is not extant. Its type is Nabaviella elegans.

It was assigned to Porifera by Sepkoski (2002) and Finks et al. (2004).
