Glycymerita veatchii
Taxonomy
Axinaea veatchii was named by Gabb (1864). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is "Chico beds" - Tuscan Springs, Tehama, which is in a Coniacian coastal siliciclastic in California.
It was recombined as Pectunculus veatchi by Stanton (1896); it was recombined as Glycimeris veatchi by Waring (1917); it was recombined as Glycymeris veatchii by Stewart (1930), Hoots (1931) and Smith (1945); it was recombined as Glycymerita veatchii by Squires (2010) and Haggart and Graham (2018).

Diagnosis
Reference | Diagnosis | |
---|---|---|
F. M. Anderson 1958 (Glycymeris shastensis) | The shell is of moderate size, subcircular in outline or often subquadrate; shell inflated, surface marked by fine radial riblets near the beak, becoming coarser with growth; beaks central, the sides forming an angle of about 125 degrees; hinge plate as shown (Fig. 10), having about 8 or 10 nearly vertical teeth near the center, and about 6 heavier and more oblique teeth; interior margin in more mature examples set with about 36 denticles. | |
F. M. Anderson 1958 (Glycymeris pentzana) | Shell of medium size, a little inflated, subcircular in outline, nearly equilateral, with low beaks, scarcely rising above margin of valves; shell of moderate thickness; surface marked by concentric growth lines and by slight undulations, crossed by numerous (30-35) rather fine radial ribs extending from beak to basal margin of shell; hinge plate of holotype only partly exposed, but set with radially arranged cardinal teeth, 10 or more on either side of the median line, curving outward and downward at ends of hinge plate ; inner margin of the shell smooth at the front and rear, denticulate only at the base of the shell opposite the beak, for about 10 mm. | |
R. L. Squires 2010 | Shell size small to large. Subquadrate (most specimens) to quadrate. Shell height slightly greater than shell length and with well-inflated valves. Ribs raised, narrow to very wide, and narrowly to moderately widely spaced. |
