Eusigmomys was named by Ameghino (1905). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Viscacciidae by Rovereto (1914); to Neoepiblemidae by Negri and Ferigolo (1999); and to Dinomyidae by McKenna and Bell (1997) and Rasia and Candela (2018).
