Sajanolynthus was named by Vologdin and Kashina (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto-l Cm Boto-u]. It is the type genus of Sajanolynthidae.
It was assigned to Monocyathida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Sajanolynthidae by Kerner et al. (2011) and Debrenne et al. (2015).
