Tafilaltaspis rufa was named by van Viersen and Lerouge (2020). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Crinoidal Limestone Lenses in Marl, Emsian/Eifelian Boundary, Hamar Laghdad, which is in an Emsian/Eifelian marine marl/limestone in Morocco.
