Taxonomy
Oxytomodon was named by Gazin (1941). Its type is Oxytomodon perissum.

It was synonymized subjectively with Litomylus by Van Valen (1978) and Tomida (1981).

It was assigned to Condylarthra by Gazin (1941); to Arctocyonidae by Robison (1986), Williamson (1996), Archibald (1998) and Cifelli et al. (1999); and to Hyopsodontidae by Zack et al. (2005).
