Taxonomy
Pitaria verticala was named by Hanna (1927). Its type specimen is UVCMP 31037 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCR loc. 4922, which is in a Lutetian deep subtidal shelf shale in the Ardath Formation of California.
