Bubogonia was named by Johnston and Fox (1984). It is not extant. Its type is Bubogonia saskia.
It was assigned to Mioclaenidae by Johnston and Fox (1984) and Archibald (1998); to Pleuraspidotheriinae by Zack et al. (2005); and to Hyopsodontidae by Williamson and Weil (2011).
