Haplomylus was named by Matthew (1915). It is not extant. Its type is Hyopsodus speirianus.
It was assigned to Hyopsodontidae by Matthew (1915), Hay (1930), Carroll (1988) and Archibald (1998); and to Apheliscidae by Zack et al. (2005), Rose et al. (2012) and Hooker and Russell (2012).
