Louisina was named by Russell (1964). It is not extant. Its type is Louisina mirabilis.
It was assigned to Hyopsodontidae by Carroll (1988); to Louisininae by Sudre and Russell (1982) and Zack et al. (2005); and to Louisinidae by Hooker and Russell (2012).
