Annulocyathus was named by Vologdin (1937) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto-l Cm Boto-u]. It is the type genus of Annulocyathidae.
It was assigned to Ajacicyathida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Annulocyathidae by Kerner et al. (2011) and Debrenne et al. (2015).
