Zizyphus laurifolius was named by Berry (1914). It is considered to be a form taxon. It is a compression fossil. Its type locality is McBrides Ford, which is in a Coniacian/Santonian fluvial mudstone/sandstone in the Eutaw Formation of Georgia.
