Taxonomy
Vampyromorpha was named by Robson (1929) [m. kosnik taxon no: 7246]. It is extant.

It was reranked as the suborder Vampyromorphina by Jeletzky (1966); it was corrected as Vampyromorphida by Boyle and Rodhouse (2005), Tanabe (2008) and Tanabe and Hikida (2010).

It was assigned to Dibranchiata by Kretzoi (1942); to Teuthida by Jeletzky (1966); to Coleoidea by Wells and Houston (2001) and Fuchs et al. (2003); and to Octobrachia by Doyle et al. (1994), Boyle and Rodhouse (2005), Tanabe (2008) and Tanabe and Hikida (2010).
