Palauchenia was named by del Castillo (1869). It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Gigantocamelus by Silva-Bárcenas (1969) and Ferrusquia (1978); it was synonymized subjectively with Camelops by Dalquest (1974).

It was assigned to Camelidae by del Castillo (1869) and Dalquest (1992).
