Taxonomy
Oromeryx was named by Marsh (1894) [Not explicitly indicated as "gen. nov." in this paper, but this is description of the type species, Oromeryx plicatus]. Its type is Oromeryx plicatus.

It was assigned to Leptomerycinae by Hay (1902); to Hypertragulidae by Peterson (1919); and to Oromerycidae by Marsh (1894), Gazin (1955), Carroll (1988) and Prothero (1998).
