Aulacosphinctes reedi was named by Anderson (1945). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is USGS Mesozoic loc. M2253, Watson Creek, which is in a Tithonian marine sandstone in California.
It was recombined as Parodontoceras reedi by Imlay and Jones (1970).
