Taxonomy
Lambdotherium was named by Cope (1880). Its type is Lambdotherium popoagicum. It is the type genus of Lambdotheriidae.
It was assigned to Chalicotheriidae by Cope (1881); to Lambdotheriinae by Hay (1902); to Titanotheriidae by Scott (1913); to Lambdotheriidae by Prothero and Schoch (1989); to Perissodactyla by Cope (1880) and Mader (1998); and to Brontotheridae by Hooker and Dashzeveg (2004).
