Totanus lartetianus was named by Milne-Edwards (1868). It is the type species of Scolopacimilis.

It was recombined as Scolopacimilis lartetianus by De Pietri and Mayr (2012).

Mayr 2012Small charadriiform bird, characterized by the following features: humerus with (1) transverse ridge across incisura capitis (Fig. 1B) and (2) dorsal surface of the crista deltopectoralis concave, with slender cranio- dorsal rim and well-defined and protruding tuberculum dorsale (Fig. 2A, J). Character (1) is an apomorphy of Scolopaci (Strauch 1978), whereas (2) distinguishes the new taxon from all other representatives of this taxon.
