Grangeria was named by Zdansky (1930) [Type: The fossil is from China and is (or was) stored in the paleontological institute of the university of Upsala, Sweden.]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Schizotheriinae by Zdansky (1930); to Eomoropinae by Colbert (1935); to Chalicotheriidae by Prothero and Schoch (1989); and to Chalicotherioidea by Coombs (1998).
