Cardiolophus was named by Gingerich (1991). It is not extant. Its type is Cardiolophus radinskyi.
It was assigned to Perissodactyla by Holbrook (1999); to Ancylopoda by Hooker and Dashzeveg (2004); to Isectolophidae by Gingerich (1991), Colbert and Schoch (1998) and Holbrook et al. (2004); and to Tapiromorpha by Colbert (2005).
