Taxonomy
Proetus (Gerastos) sugiharensis was named by Kobayashi and Hamada (1974). Its type specimen is PAt 7375, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Loc. 3. Ys 15. Gomi Quarry, which is in a Ludlow reef, buildup or bioherm reef rocks in the Fukata Formation of Japan.
It was recombined as Hedstroemia sugiharensis by Adrain (1997) and Stocker et al. (2019).
