Veragromovia was named by Gabunia (1961). Its type is Veragromovia desmatotheroides.

It was synonymized subjectively with Helaletes by Prothero and Schoch (1989).

It was assigned to Tapiroidea by Carroll (1988); and to Rhinocerotoidea by Bayshashov and Billia (2011).
