Taxonomy

Prohyracodon was named by Koch (1897). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Alloceropinae by Prothero and Schoch (1989); to Hyracodontinae by Dashzeveg (1996); and to Hyracodontidae by Radinsky (1966), Carroll (1988) and Wang et al. (2016).

Meninatherium was named by Abel (1910).

It was synonymized subjectively with Prohyracodon by Prothero and Schoch (1989).
Prothyracodon was named by Scott and Osborn (1887).

It was synonymized subjectively with Triplopus by Hay (1902), Radinsky (1967), Radinsky (1969) and Black (1979); it was synonymized subjectively with Prohyracodon by Dashzeveg (1991).

It was assigned to Hyracodontinae by Peterson (1919); and to Hyracodontidae by Radinsky (1966).
