Carbonocoryphe (Aprathia) modavensis was named by Hahn et al. (1980). Its type specimen is SMF 2821, a pygidium, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Aprathia modavensis by Engel and Morris (1989); it was recombined as Phillibolina (Aprathia) modavensis by Müller (2000).
