Torynobelodon was named by Barbour (1929). It is not extant. Its type is Torynobelodon loomisi.
It was synonymized subjectively with Platybelodon by Barbour (1932) and Shoshani and Tassy (1996); it was synonymized subjectively with Amebelodon by Gregory (1945).
It was assigned to Gomphotheriidae by Barbour (1929), Osborn (1936), Tobien (1972), Lambert (1990), Thomasson et al. (1990) and Lambert and Shoshani (1998); and to Platybelodontinae by Wang et al. (2017).
It was synonymized subjectively with Platybelodon by Barbour (1932) and Shoshani and Tassy (1996); it was synonymized subjectively with Amebelodon by Gregory (1945).
