Cyrtosymbole (Pusillabole) was named by Alberti (1973) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame Sepkoski's reference number: 1106].

It was reranked as Pusillabole by Brauckmann and Brauckmann (1986), Brauckmann and Koch (1987), Chlupac (1994) and Jell and Adrain (2002); it was synonymized subjectively with Helioproetus by Feist et al. (2003); it was misspelled as Pusillaboles by Sepkoski (2002) and Bault et al. (2021).

It was assigned to Cyrtosymbolinae by Brauckmann and Brauckmann (1986), Brauckmann and Koch (1987) and Chlupac (1994); to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cyrtosymbole by Alberti (1973) and Bault et al. (2021).
