Tricostium longifolium was named by Ignatov and Shcherbakov (2011). Its type specimen is PIN 5438/76 and is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Khasurty (PIN collection 5438), which is in an Aptian lacustrine - small siliciclastic in the Russian Federation.
