Titanohyrax was named by Matsumoto (1922) [also said to be 1921]. It is not extant.
It was assigned to Saghatheriinae by Sudre (1979) and Prothero and Schoch (1989); to Titanohyracinae by Rasmussen and Simons (2000); to Pliohyracidae by Rasmussen and Simons (1988), Carroll (1988), Court and Hartenberger (1992) and Hartenberger et al. (2001); and to Titanohyracidae by Matsumoto (1926) and Rasmussen and Gutiérrez (2010).
