Proetus gumbeli abruptirhachis was named by Richter and Richter (1919) ["Proetus" (subg. ?) Gümbeli var. abruptirhachis,].

It was recombined as Cyrtosymbole (Waribole) abruptirhachis by Richter and Richter (1951); it was recombined as Archegonus (Waribole) abruptirhachis by Hahn (1965); it was recombined as Belgibole abruptirhachis by Feist (1992).
