Phillipsia grandis was named by Etheridge (1892) [Phillipsia? grandis].

It was recombined as Linguaphillipsia grandis by Osmólska (1970); it was recombined as Conophillipsia grandis by Engel and Morris (1984); it was recombined as Monodechenella grandis by Vanderlaan and Ebach (2015).

Pygidium semi-elliptical and convex; axis of equal height anteriorly to posteriorly; axial ring furrows undulating; 11–12 pleural ribs; border convex.
