Pseudhyrax was named by Ameghino (1901). Its type is Pseudhyrax eutrachytheroides.

It was assigned to Archaeohyracidae by Ameghino (1901), Simpson (1967), Carroll (1988) and Reguero and Prevosti (2010).

P. eutrachytheroides (syn. Pseudopithecus modestus, Rankelia elegans, Degonia kollmanni) (type species), P. strangulatus (syn. Trimerostephanos cuneolus)
