Pretiosocyathus was named by Rozanov (1966) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-l Cm Boto-l]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Pretiosocyathoidea, Pretiosocyathidae.
It was assigned to Ajacicyathida by Kotel'nikov (1995) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Pretiosocyathidae by Debrenne et al. (2015).
