Taxonomy
Cochlops was named by Ameghino (1889). Its type is Cochlops muricatus.

It was assigned to Propalaehoplophorinae by Hoffstetter (1958); to Glyptodontidae by Ameghino (1889), Scott (1903), Brown (1912) and Carroll (1988); and to Propalaehoplophoridae by Ameghino (1891), Ameghino (1894) and Fernicola (2008).
