Paraglyptodon was named by Castellanos (1932). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Glyptodontidae by Carroll (1988) and MacFadden et al. (1993); to Glyptodontini by McKenna and Bell (1997) and Fernicola (2008); and to Glyptodontinae by Hoffstetter (1958) and Scillato-Yané et al. (2013).
