Triatriopollenites dilatus was named by Stover et al. (1966) [Triatriopollenites dilatus Fairchild in Stover et al. 1966]. It is considered to be a form taxon.

It was recombined as Momipites dilatus by Nichols (1973) and Frederiksen and Christopher (1978).
