Taxonomy
Akmaiomys incohatus was named by Reeder (1960) [genotype]. Its type locality is Cedar Creek (Lower), which is in an Orellan terrestrial horizon in the Brule Formation of Colorado.
It was synonymized subjectively with Heliscomys vetus by Black (1965); it was recombined as Proheteromys incohatus by Gawne (1975) and Wood (1980); it was considered a nomen dubium by Korth (1994); it was recombined as Apletotomeus incohatus by Korth and Branciforte (2007).
