Taxonomy
Mesopsyche liaoi was named by Lian et al. (2021). Its type specimen is NIGP173366, a forewing, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Near Korjay, Toksun County, which is in a Carnian terrestrial shale in the Huangshanjie Formation of China.
